Friday 29/07

This morning we are Involved in "Science and Technology" theme. Our tutor collects a list from us of tools/apps that we known or that we use in our normal activities. Then we are divided in short groups to prepare a synthetic presentation. At the end after a short time any couple has presented his favorite app.
This activity was interest because I discovered a lot of tools that I do not knew before and that I'll want to discover when I return to home.

In a second activity, with a different tutor, we were divided into two main groups because we are too many. For each group we were divided in two half. Then the tutor, at any 5 minutes, assigned a phrase and one half to speak for advantage and the other half for disadvantage . When the time expired we had 5 minutes for exposing and discussing together.
Also this activity was amazing because we are very involved to discuss the  fact proposed.

Also this special kind of role playing can be used easily in classroom with our students.

Thursday 28/07

In the morning the tutor assigned us the task of speaking with each other and describe the place where we got the evening before. We had to describe not only the place but only the direction of how to reach it and what kind of food we had consumed. It is a very interesting situation where all participants spoke about their tastes and their favourite drinks or dishes.
During this activity, as usual, we had augmented our dictionary and the common sayings.

Afterwards we started a role play activity, where we had to simulate a telephone call between a "virtual chef" and a "virtual client". Before each of us  started we had to prepare a menu of our virtual restaurant based on favourite national or regional traditions. When we started, we took turns taking the the role of the chef and the other took the role of the waiter. It was a very interesting and cheerful activity. It's a role play activity that can be used easily for any classroom situations.

Wednesday 27/07

In the morning we went to visit The National Gallery of Ireland (http://www.nationalgalleryimages.ie/) that is about 5 minutes from our class on the third floor in the Conference Centre. Unfortunately today some rooms was closed but for what we had to do it was sufficient.
The task assigned by our tutor was to take 3 favourite photos in each of the following categories portrait, landscape and classical scenery and then go back to our class to present the photos with details about elements inside the painting, geometrical structure, colour characteristics, emotional sensations. Very fine!
Listening to the presentations of my colleagues I was unconsciously included in their way of thinking and realized that I discovered that me too am capable of seeing and speaking about painting. Also perhaps a deep meaning or limited aspect. I was excited about this and I was happy about it.
Considering my starting point, my expositions were very short  and essential but it was what I can do at the moment. Thanks!

Tuesday 26/07

In the morning we are spit into little groups. The tutor has assigned for each group a task of historical research about people that influenced  Ireland and  England. The task is made up of research using the internet and then to write a summary or a map to synthesize. Any 10 minutes the team's papers have to be exchanged and the new task for the other groups is to augment or add details to the paper just filled in by the other groups. We formed 4 groups so after 40 minutes all groups have finished to write. The last step was to present the work of each group.
I found this activity very useful because in a small group all participants are involved and the conflicts are less than in a big group. The additonal step is intended to envelope collaboration because it avoids conflict and enhances different points of view.

Monday 25/07

In the morning I have listened to the EM chairman and noted his clear pronunciation and also his friendly behavior. I must remember this image for using it in my school in the acceptance week when courses start.
The "Discovering of special places in Dublin" was a very exciting activity because it force us to go outside school and it's a part of group work, collaborations, exchange basic talk with other persons, discover cultural places (theater, church), public places (malls, parks, bridges).
It was on focus also in details, with an extra bonus for particular situations.

Arrived in Dublin

After an hard interior work to stop me to escape from this alone travel I discovered a human alternative to Google Maps: simply follow the queue of young italian students. After recovering the suitcase I have taken the AIRCOACH bus that with 7 euro in about 15 minutes stops near to Trinity College Dublin (TCD); later I went to Accomodation Office to take the key of my room.
I eaten at Nando's 12 St Andrew's: Mediterranean Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast Fillet.
